While standing at a well at a temple in Tokyo, this ancient tree provided shade for all. It was the magnificent root system that caught my eye. How long had this tree stood here for? How incredibly intricate and beautiful it was, staying strong and steadfast for probably centuries. This is quite a large piece and could sit as a feature on a wall. I used a palette knife to build up the colour in the background.

I loved creating this painting. These alien shapes of gourds, pumpkins and zucchinis were tricky to make look real and the green yellow and orange colours were also hard to get just right, but I think I got it in the end. I found these contorted vegetables in a market in Paris. I was just captured by the strangeness and vibrancy of them and I knew it was something I wanted to put down on canvas and the oil paint just wanted to move on it to help achieve the effect. It’s pretty vibrant in colour so should bring some energy to any room.

Someone in my household fiddled with the poses of my artist mannequins and here they are. I love how the small mannequin seems to be telling the big one to”follow me”. The little guy can take the lead and we should take notice! This painting could be hung anywhere in the home and also suitable for an office area. The neutral colours of the artwork should blend well with most decor.
