Oil on linen, framed in Tasmanian oak, ready to hang. I found this old set of scales in a bric a brac market sometime ago. Brought back memories of childhood. I just loved the patina on them, the beurre bosc pears looked great sitting on the weighing dish set the still life off. Love the earthy hues of this winter fruit.

Gourds at the Farmers Market

Oil on canvas, stretched and ready to hang. Signed on the front. I loved creating the weird and wonderful alien shapes of these gourds, pumpkins and zucchinis. I found these contorted vegetables in a market in Paris. I was just captured by the strangeness and vibrancy of them and I knew it was something I wanted to put down on canvas and the oil paint just wanted to move on it to help achieve the effect. It is pretty vibrant in colour so should bring some energy to any room.

There is a time of the day and year, when the sun sits in the right place, to give a golden glow and gives a warmth and depth of colour to the things it shines on. The colours in nature at this moment are almost unreal, abstract, and play tricks on the mind but brings a feeling of joy and wonder, about how nature does what it does. This is how I felt when seeing this tree while on a walk in Autumn.
