How I love the moodiness of a storm , especially in the early morning and out to sea. This is from an early morning walk on a beach in Forster on the mid north coast of NSW. The surf was unruly and the sky threatening. The subdued colours really caught my eye. I wanted to try and capture this, with the movement of the waves and tide. There is so much more to a coastal beach picture than blue skies and sunshine. Love being there at any time.

Hundreds of coloured pebbles washed up on the beach. Another opportunity to capture something unusual in oil paint. I’ve abstracted theses pebbles, hard to believe they came from the sandy beach floor. This painting can hang as is but would look great in an oak frame. As demonstrated in the second styled view.

Following in the footsteps of the Australian impressionist, this landscape painting is on a wood panel sized the same as the cigar box lids they often used. I have selected a similar colour palette to depict this scene at Dunns Swamp in the Capertee Valley, country NSW. This is a place with a sad history where the Aboriginal people who lived and farmed the area were wiped out by settlers poisoning their drinking water with arsenic. Such a tragic episode in our history, probably unknown to many. This is a beautiful part of the world, but there is an eeriness here, a sense of the past, that is haunting and should not be forgotten. I have framed this panel in a thin grey oak box frame. It is small and could look good resting on a shelf or hanging on a wall space between windows or doors.
