How Magnificent is the Waratah?
- 30 x 30 cm
A$370
I think the Waratah is magnificent. A unique flower to Australia. Hard to spot in the native bush land, but when you do, it’s red flower is like a beacon, swaying in the spring breeze, standing tall above us all. Flowering for only a few weeks it’s like finding treasure when you do see one. Such an elusive flower deserves to be painted as many artists have done in the past. Here is my version. This would look great framed in a dark or natural box frame.

Here I have painted a partly peeled mandarin. The beautiful sweet scent diffuses through the air and evokes deliciousness, as does its orange colour. These are the things that inspire me to paint everyday things and I’m really enjoying painting minimalist still life on wood panel at the moment.

I was sitting under this tree canopy enjoying the calm following a Summer storm. The evening was approaching and there was a moment of absolute serenity. Mother Nature can still put on a magnificent display, ignorant to the troubles of her human occupants in these pandemic times. This tiny moment made me forget all the troubles of the world and find some peace. I have painted this to take me back to that time, and hopefully do the same for the observer. This is an oil painting using only palette knife, so has an impasto quality to it. It is quite large so would suit a feature wall.
